En 2004, la mairie de Paris décide de restructurer le Forum des Halles et d’y ériger un toit de verre digne des plus grands ouvrages d’art, la Canopée. Débute alors un chantier titanesque tel que la capitale n’en a pas connu depuis un siècle, car le Forum est une mégastructure unique. Couvrant 8 ha en plein coeur de Paris, ce gigantesque bloc de béton plonge à 20 mètres sous terre. Il abrite le deuxième centre commercial de France et la plus grande gare souterraine du monde ! Et, comme si le défi technique n’était pas assez grand, la mairie impose une contrainte : les Halles doivent rester ouvertes au public pendant les travaux. Or, un million de personnes s’y croisent chaque jour. Des premiers coups de pioche au dernier coup de peinture, nous allons vivre l’aventure exceptionnelle de ce chantier.
In 2004, the mayor of Paris decides to restructure the Forum des Halles and to erect a glass roof worthy of the greatest works of art, the Canopy. Begins then a titanic construction site such as the capital did not know since a century, because the Forum is a unique megastructure. Covering 8 ha in the heart of Paris, this gigantic concrete block plunges 20 meters underground. It houses the second largest shopping center in France and the largest underground train station in the world! And, as if the technical challenge was not big enough, the town hall imposed a constraint: the Halles must remain open to the public during the works. One million people meet each other every day.
